Svetoslav holds a B.Sc. in Economics from University College London (first class honours), M.Sc. in Economics from the LSE, Masters degree in Business Mathematics jointly from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and the Athens University of Economics and Business, and a PhD in Economics from NKUA. His research interests and experience include economic impact assessment, microdata analysis, history of economic thought and topics in energy, environment, industry, sea transport, education, and civil society. He has worked as an expert in the Credit Administration Department of the Bulgarian Post Bank and as a senior analyst in KANTOR Management Consultants. He is a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of the microfinance organisation Action Finance Initiative and a member of the Finance and Audit Committee and the General Assembly of ActionAid Hellas.
