Who We Are

The Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research – IOBE was founded in 1975. It is a private, non-profit, public benefit, research organization that aims to promote scientific research on the problems of the Greek economy, to provide objective information and formulate proposals useful in policy making. IOBE’s main goal is to intervene in a timely manner, highlighting today the critical issues of the future.

IOBE carries out its mission while maintaining a position of scientific and academic neutrality, as an independent and non-aligned research organization. The policy judgments and proposals formulated in its research projects express the views of the researchers’ and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of IOBE members, its Administration and its sponsors.

In this context, according to its Statute, IOBE performs the following functions:

  • It conducts applied scientific research on key structural and sectoral problems of the Greek economy and on general economic policy issues.

  • It monitors and analyzes short-term economic trends, records the economic and business climate and formulates forecasts for the prospects of the Greek economy.

  • It provides reliable and up-to-date information on sectors and industries of the Greek economy.

  • It collaborates with international organizations and research institutes and participates in international research on economic issues and policies.

  • It intervenes by contributing to the public debate on economic policy issues.

Considering that open dialogue on economic issues is a prerequisite for making appropriate decisions, IOBE contributes to public debate by publishing the results of its research projects and by organizing, in collaboration with other organizations or bodies, conferences, lectures, workshops and other events on current issues and trends in the Greek and international economy. These events constitute an essential element of the wider activity of IOBE and receive wide publicity. They host politicians, policymakers, representatives of the banking, business and academic worlds, with the aim of discussing, exchanging views and promoting policy proposals, measures and solutions.
