The aim of the study is to assess the contribution of the Greek plastics industry, in particular plastic packaging products, agricultural film and fishnets, to the implementation of the European and national strategy for the circular economy, as well as to examine the competitiveness challenges and opportunities of the sector. The study records the current situation regarding the production and use of plastic products and waste in the country, highlights the importance of recycling plastic waste, examines the legal framework in Greece and Europe for the management of plastic wastes, estimates the plastic waste flow balance for 2020 and 2030 and makes policy suggestions for the plastics industry’s adaptation to the circular economy requirements by 2030.
