The impact of proposed EU regulation on payment card systems: The perception of Greek cardholders

The scope of the study is to identify possible reactions to the regulatory changes proposed recently by the European Commission regarding the use of payment cards. The proposed changes include imposition of a pricing cap on multilateral interchange fees, limitation of the Honour All Cards Rule and introduction of the right to include multiple brands (VISA, MasterCard, etc.) on a single card. For this purpose IOBE performed a study, in collaboration with the polling company Public Issue SA, which was based on data collected from 1.000 telephone interviews with cardholders across Greece, asked to answer a pre-defined questionnaire.
