From 2014 to 2022, HEMEXPO companies achieved remarkable growth in turnover, exports, and employment. Their contribution to the Greek economy in 2022 reached €2 billion (GDP) and supported 13,400 full-time jobs, highlighting their strategic role in both domestic and international markets. The study’s scope was to outline the current contribution of the ocean-going shipping to the Greek economy and to estimate its potential contribution under the hypothetical scenario of expanding the number of vessels managed in Greece. We estimated the direct, indirect and induced effects from both current and potential activity in merchant shipping, using an Input-Output model of the Greek economy.
