Business and Consumer Surveys |

In order to effectively carry out the monitoring of the short-term economic developments and prospects, IOBE makes extensive use of the Business and Consumer Surveys. IOBE’s Business Trends Unit is responsible for conducting these surveys, analyzing the data and publishing the results. These surveys are conducted continuously since 1981 and are part of the Harmonized Business Surveys Program of the European Union, a project that has been progressively developed since 1962. In addition, since January 2008 IOBE is the only conductor in Greece of the Consumer Survey (consumer confidence) for the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission (DG ECFIN - European Commission). The business and consumers surveys are conducted by all member states of the EU, on the basis of the harmonized questionnaires from the European Commission. In Greece, IOBE conducts the monthly surveys for consumers and businesses in Industry, Construction, Retail Trade and Services, as well as the biannual Investment Survey in Industry, and disposes its results at DG-ECFIN. The business and consumer monthly data, combined with the analysis of the short-term prospects of the Greek economy, are analytically presented and discussed in IOBE’s monthly ''Bulletin of Economic Trends.'' Since 2009, the Bulletin of Economic Trends is accompanied monthly on IOBE’s website by a separate presentation of the main results of the conducted consumer survey (files of consumer survey).
