Low Emissions Vehicles in Greece: Challenges and prospects

Category: Microeconomic Analysis
SubCategory: Automotives
Date: 31/10/2019

The average age of the Greek fleet of private vehicles is high and this results, amongst others, to high emissions of greenhouse gases. The penetration of low emission vehicles can contribute in the reduction of the emissions from the private road transport sector, under specific incentive schemes, that can lead to a car mix emitting less, compared to conventional engines. The study calculates and compares the fiscal cost for the implementation of the incentive schemes with the monetarized social and environmental benefits from lowering the emissions of the sector.
