Manufacturing Prospects in Greece

Category: Entrepreneurship
SubCategory: -
Date: 02/05/2012

Τhe study on the prospects of the Μanufacturing sector in Greece aims to highlight its branches with the highest growth potential in the coming years. For this purpose, the developments in the main economic figures (level of production, exports, R&D expenditure etc.) and in employment are examined, at the 3-digit NACE Rev.1 level of economic activitiy. Next, the competitiveness of the manufacturing branches, the most credible indicator of future prospects, is evaluated with the use of various criteria (eg. the Balassa index, BCG Matrix, Hausmann-Rodrik index). Specific manufacturing activities that present the greatest potential for contributing to the economic recovery of Greece are highlighted by taking into account both the trends in fundamentals of production and in competitiveness. Accordingly, the existing barriers to the growth of these activities are stressed and suggestions are made for dealing with them (eg. changes in the regulatory framework, facilitation of licensing, specialised financial instruments).
